In a medium saucepan, bring 2 inches of water to a boil. Place the beets into a steamer basket, set it over the boiling water, cover, and steam for 7 minutes or until the beets are tender when pierced with a fork.

If using frozen cherries, add them on top of the steamed beets, cover, and steam for an additional 3 minutes. Let them cool slightly and reserve the steaming water.

Place the cooked beets, cherries, bananas, and fresh lemon juice into a blender or food processor. Puree on high for 1-2 minutes or until completely smooth. If necessary, thin the puree by adding 1 tablespoon of the reserved steaming water at a time until the desired consistency is reached.
